BRIAN CORMACK CARR is a professionally certified coach specialising in the areas of life purpose, career direction, productivity, organisational strategy and work-life balance. He has more than 15 years experience in the fields of personal and professional effectiveness, with a particular focus on working with creative and service-oriented individuals, charity leaders, public servants and social entrepreneurs.

After graduating with Honours from the University of Aberdeen, he completed extensive management training with Marks & Spencer plc, before going on to specialise in personnel management for the company. During this time, he worked to develop the effectiveness of staff and management trainees. He became Managing Director of his first charity – a Citizens Advice Bureau – on his 26th birthday.


He is currently Chief Executive of BVSC, The Centre for Voluntary Action – named in 2003 as one of the fastest-growing charities in the UK – where he leads a large senior management team in delivering a range of support services for the charitable sector. He is an active member of the boards of Birmingham’s Strategic Partnership, Race Action Partnership, and Pride Community Trust.


Brian holds an Advanced Diploma (with Distinction) in Personal & Performance Coaching, and is professionally certified through The Coaching Academy, Europe’s leading coach training institute.  He also holds qualifications in herbalism and nutrition, and is an accredited facilitator of FranklinCovey training, including their flagship FOCUS: Achieving Your Highest Priorities and 7 Habits of Highly Effective Managers programmes. He is a regular expert contributor to The Coaching Academy Blog and to Careershifters, the UK’s leading career-change service.
